Chipped stone artifact

These illustrations show the face and back of a chipped stone artifact. The top half of this arrowhead has been snapped off. The purpose of this type of illustration is to draw attention to the ridges (called cleavages) and ripples of the stone, fiendishly difficult to photograph and of significance to anthropologists.
