This illustration shows the critical anatomy underlying the laparoscopic cholecystectomy (minimally invasive gallbladder removal) surgical technique. The fundus of the gallbladder has been lifted over the edge of the right lobe of the liver. Dissection in the anatomic region called Calot’s Triangle will reveal the cystic duct and artery, which will be divided to complete the procedure. The common bile duct and hepatic arteries must be preserved.
